How To Unwind After A Day In Lockdown

I don’t know about you but I am finding this latest lockdown hard. Like seriously hard. I’m not sure if it’s the dark days, the dreary weather, the repetitive nature or the feeling like we’ve been here before but lockdown the third is hitting me like a tonne of bricks.

I’ve recently been updating my routine to give me a more solid work/life separation and help me to unwind in the evenings. I think we can all agree that 2021 is going to be the year of me – whether that’s making better decisions for ourselves or doing what we can to help ourselves out. So I thought I would share my routine that helps me to unwind after a day in lockdown.

Separation

Working, eating, breathing and sleeping all between 4 small walls can be hard. Whether you’re locked down in a 1 bed flat or a 4 bedroom house, finding that work/ life separation is tough. If you have the capacity to work in a separate room or an office, I would 100% recommend doing so. A room that you can set up a little table and chair for your laptop, your notebooks, your print outs or whatever it is you need to do your day to day. A room that, at 5pm, you can shut the door and forget even exists.

If you don’t have this capacity, as many, many of us don’t, try and be strict with your work/ life separation. If you work at the kitchen table, make sure everything is packed away before dinner time. If you work on your sofa, don’t leave your work laptop beside you to ping away while you’re trying to catch up on Netflix. If you work from your bed, maybe use a throw to indicate when you are and aren’t in work hours. Throw on the bed? Type away. Throw has been thrown off? Laptop down madam.

Finding that work life balance has never been so crucial.

Skincare

I love having a skincare routine. I find that not only does it keep my complexion looking  more radiant but it also really helps me have a bit more of a routine in the evenings. I know that as soon as that cleanser has been applied and the toner is swiped, that’s it, I’m off work. Seeing as though I’ve had more time on my hands, I’ve really started to expand my skincare routine and use this extra time to give my skin a bit of extra love.

Loungewear vs Pj’s

I don’t know about you but all I want in this lockdown is to be comfy, cosy and have an elastic waist band. But there’s a big difference between loungewear and pj’s. PJ’s are saved for the evenings and only for the evenings. I’ve recently invested in some new nightwear to make lockdown evenings a little bit extra special. I would definitely recommend doing the same.

I know how hard this lockdown is on so many of us and what a toll it’s taking, but just know that you’re not alone and we can get through this together.
