How To Style Florals For Autumn

If there’s one thing you should know about me it’s that I love a floral dress. LOVE. A. FLORAL. DRESS. I feel like they are the most timeless, ageless piece to have in your wardrobe – you can wear them in your 20’s, in your 30’s, 40’s, 50’s, 60’s and so on and so forth. They’re a classic for a reason and I have far too many in my wardrobe to be proud of.

Now if there’s one season that I get so many questions on the styling of floral dresses, it’s autumn. Spring and summer are so easy to style – I mean florals for spring are ground breaking for a reason. But I am someone who adores florals for autumn and think they definitely have a place in your autumn wardrobe. So here’s how I style floral dresses for autumn.

Me mindful of your colour palette

When it comes to styling floral dresses for autumn, the first thing to note is the colour palette – those deeper, richer tones work so much better for autumn. I’d steer clear of blues for autumn and instead opt for pinks, oranges, browns and greens. I think they work so much better for this time of year and allow you to stay true to your personal style while still embracing the new season styling.

Layers, layers, layers

I love layering in autumn and find floral dresses are so easy to layer! Whether that’s over the top or underneath – add a cute cardigan, a cable knit or a longline coat over the top to keep you warm. Alternatively, thermals are a girls best friend in the colder months are so easy to hide under maxi dresses – think leggings, tights, vests or even long sleeve tops! It’s a great way to get more wear out of your dresses for autumn and even winter.

Accessorising

When it comes to your accessories, they can really change an outfit up. They can change the look from something a bit more summery into something really autumnal. Change your slides for ballet flats and maybe even boots when the weather gets cold enough. Look at rich colours in your bags like black or tan and change your straw hat to a woollen fedora. Such easy changes to take the dress from summer into autumn!
