So What’s Next?

Today is a little bit of a freak out day for me. I feel like we all go through moments where we go OMG WTF AM I DOING WITH MY LIFE and today was one of those moments. As most of you know, I am now in my third and final year of university, which always sparks the inevitable question.

So whats next?

What are you planning to do next year?

So whats the plan then?

Urmmmmm pls stop.

I’ll tell you now. I have no clue. And I hate that.

I’m a planner. I love having lists and plans and a schedule to follow. I like knowing where I am going next week and next month and next year. I have always known what is around the corner and now that corner is a big white wall which I am not sure what is past it. So yes, existential crisis here.

So I did what everyone does when they don’t know the answer to it.

I googled it.

And you know what? For once it actually made things better. It reminded me that I am young and being young is the time to not have a clue what you’re doing. Being young is for finding your feet and trialling what you do/ do not like. Being young is for taking risks and making mistakes and finding out what works and what really doesnt.

There is soooooo much pressure these days to know what you want to do from such a young age, or to become successful early in life. But guess what. Oprah was 32 when she got her first talk show, Harrison Ford got his big break at 31. Simon Cowell was 42 when he first appeared on American Idol and Morgan Freeman was unheard of before the age of 50. (thanks Google for these facts)

The point is, there’s no rush. There’s no race to become successful or rich or famous (if that is your end goal). Life is to be enjoyed and being young should be something cherished, not rushed.

So I am going to enjoy not knowing what is next and say a big F~U to those who keep asking.
