How To Nail Office Dressing In Winter*

Now that frostbite has well and truly graced us with its winter chill, it’s time to really plan your outfits ahead to avoid the inevitable blue fingers. I love office dressing but I’ll admit that it can be so tricky to nail it when it’s minus degrees outside and threatening snow. I, for one, do not appreciate the 7am car defrosting spectacle but that’s just what you get for living in Britain. There are a few things that I have learnt from my many years heading into the office in bitty cold temperatures and lashings of rain, a few mistakes I have made and a few life lessons I have learnt. So I have put together a guide for nailing workwear when all you want to do is head into the office in a dressing gown and ugg boots.

I am loving the Warehouse workwear section at the moment and have taken so much inspiration from it for this post- shop the womens workwear here*

Layering is your friend, friends

Layer, layer, layer. The only thing worse than being too cold is cosying up in a huge jumper, and then sweating it out in the office heating system. Not cool. So layer- add cardigans, coats, scarfs and vests that you can take on and off throughout the day according to what temperature Carl has decided the office needs to be today.

Stick to Neutrals

I often find that when it comes to winter dressing, colours can look a bit…. tacky. Something about rocking into work with a pink wool jumper just doesn’t scream ‘professional’ to me. I prefer to stick to neutrals to keep the professionalism- think browns, nudes, whites and blacks.

Choose your fabrics wisely

When it comes to dressing, one of the most important thing is to know your fabrics and pick them wisely. Personally, I am useless when it comes to itchy fabrics, so I like to stay clear of wools and anything that will irritate my skin. As well as knowing what works for you, it is so important to pick fabrics that will keep you warm in the colder months.

Plan your outfit the night before

If you are anything like me, then getting up when it’s pitch black outside is next to impossible- you snooze your alarm 7 times and end up having to get ready in 10 minutes. I, for one, have had far too many embarrassing incidents where I get into work and realise that my jumper was inside out, or my trousers I thought were clean actually had a massive stain on the front. So take 10 minutes out of your evening routine and pick your look for the next day. That way you don’t even need to think in the morning and will always be looking chic AF.

I would love to know your top tips for office dressing and what you do to combat the colder months!
